Reject & Disappoint
Jul 20th
The 17 year, 100+million contract to Kovalchuk from the New Jersey devils has been rejected by the NHL. And the rumors are up in the air again. From Kovy to NJ, Kovy to NY(Rangers), Kovy to LA. Yes, I said Kovalchuk to Los Angeles. But I should also mention that Marian Gaborik is now a part of the conversation. The Rangers may possibly be shopping Gabby(to LA). All while the Philadelphia Flyers are gaining more bottom D-men. And to think we were aiming for Dan Hamhuis’ caliber. Not to mention we shipped off last year’s playoff savior Simon Gagne. Eh? Rumor has it Flyers are going for Turco still? At least Powe and Asham(win) should get resigned now. Flyers have acquired Matt Walker from Tampa Bay, former Lightning Andrej Meszaros, and former King Sean O’Donnell.
The Kovy Kraze
Jul 17th
The guys at Kings Cast made a hilarious YouTube video about the whole situation so far this summer over scoring winger Ilya Kovalchuk. You can find more on this guys at their website, and check out their post here. A good laugh for hockey or maybe all sports fans.
Kovy To The Kings
Jul 12th
…Or my name is Face Palm. A deal is expected to be complete by the weekend coming up. Perhaps during the weekend. Ilya Kovalchuk has been quotes saying he wishes to remain in the NHL and has no desire to play elsewhere. I found that a bit interesting since a lot of people including myself, expected the KHL to be one of his most considered option. Hockey isn’t basketball, so don’t expect Kovy to grin big on ESPN for an hour special discussing his options of where he may be signing to. However, the New Jersey Devils will be the only other team in the hunt for Kovy but that looks about dead now. So expect Ilya to sign to LA, and soon.
A Praise To Sugar Ray
Jul 11th
There has been no official updates on Ray Ray just yet. That is very unfortunate, but I did make this praise post in his honor! I don’t think a lot of fans have realized how much he has turned his life around to be in the Philadelphia Flyers organization, and NHL. Not to mention he put up decent numbers while he was healthy, and we were winning games. Not to mention he is very entertaining to watch. Not trying to say Boucher and Leighton were dull or boring. It was just different seeing Ray Emery in net, a solid number one. Hats off to you Ray Emery, I hope you are able to make a successful comeback to the Philadelphia Flyers.
And a side note, Jody Shelley? He is one hell of a fighter, but are we really paying the guy more than 1 million per year for 3 years? This seems a bit useless.
Zherdev Signs To Philly
Jul 9th
Nikolai Zherdev has signed an NHL contract, with his wedding happening and all. Thus Zherdev is back in the NHL. It is expected for Dan Carcillo to be resigned to the Flyers, which creates a slight issue. Nothing serious, but Zherdev also wears the number 13(excellent choice in my opinion). I’m curious how the jersey numbers will play out.
The more interesting story though, is the fact that Zherdev has signed an NHL contract instead of staying away from the league. Last offseason he could not work out a deal with the Rangers, since he was reportedly asking way too much. Which was perfect almost since I was hoping the Flyers could swoop in and get a great bargain for him. Didn’t happen, and Nikolai signed in another league. I’m happy to see him back in the NHL, he is an exciting player to watch. Even more excited he is wearing orange and black for only 2million this year.
